Double leg means the body is formed from two parallel rope paths rather than one, so the load is shared. 90,000 lb ultimate tensile strength at 5/8 in - stronger than wire rope of the same diameter at about one eighth the weight, and with no pin to lose. Because it is rope rather than steel, a soft shackle stores far less energy than a metal shackle and does not become a projectile if a line parts.
